Tetraammineplatinum(II)Hydroxide is a ceramic material that is used as a catalyst for chemical reactions. Tetraammineplatinum(II)hydroxide has been shown to catalyze the reaction of magnesium with oxygen at low temperatures and to form magnesium oxide. Tetraammineplatinum(II)hydroxide can be used in the production of aluminium alloys, where it has been shown to reduce the temperature required for desorption of aluminium from its surface. This material also has acidic properties, which makes it useful as a catalyst for chemical reactions involving metals such as copper or iron.
