Triethylene glycol monodecyl ether is a fatty acid that is used as a surfactant in pharmaceutical preparations. It has been shown to prevent the formation of lamellar phases and bilayers, which are common in biological samples. Triethylene glycol monodecyl ether also has an adsorption kinetic profile that is different from other surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate or cationic surfactants. It has been shown to adsorb at a much slower rate than other surfactants, but it adsorbs more strongly and can be easily removed by washing with water or alcohols.
