Taurohyodeoxycholic acid (THDCA) is a bile acid that is used for the treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. It is believed to work by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby reducing inflammation. THDCA has also been shown to inhibit the enzyme polymerase chain reaction, which may be useful in preventing infections caused by bacteria or viruses. It has been shown to have a positive effect on energy metabolism and cell lysis, as well as an antibody response and bowel disease. THDCA has been shown to have beneficial effects on hepatic steatosis and locomotor activity in experimental models.
