Trivinylphosphine is a polymerizable organophosphorus compound that has the formula P(CH2)3PX. It is soluble in common organic solvents such as hexane, ether and benzene. Trivinylphosphine can be used as a reagent for the formation of phosphate derivatives from alcohols and phenols, or it can be used to form form compounds with organic halides. It is also used in analytical methods, including NMR spectroscopy and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Trivinylphosphine has a low energy triplet state with a ground-state spin of S=1/2. The triplet state has an unusually high phosphorescence quantum yield of 0.92 (comparable to fluorescein at 0.93).
