o-Terphenyl is a biphenyl that has shown high resistance to enzymes. It was found to be a potent inhibitor of enzyme activities in a study on the degradation of endogenous substances. The compound class of o-Terphenyl includes chlorinated benzenes, which are known to be toxic and carcinogenic. The toxicological studies on o-Terphenyl have shown that it has moderate toxicity and can cause liver damage in rats. This compound also binds to receptors in the cell membrane and is excreted from the body through urine or bile. O-terphenyl also inhibits the synthesis of proteins by enzyme inducers such as cytochrome p450.
