5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoline is a quaternary ammonium salt that inhibits the synthesis of proinflammatory leukotrienes. It is synthesized by hydrogenating 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1H-benz[e]indole with a platinum catalyst and methanol solvent. The reaction can be catalyzed by an acid or base. This compound is also an inhibitor of lipoxygenase and has been shown to ameliorate colitis in animal models. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoline has shown some success in clinical trials for the treatment of depression and other mood disorders.
