(2H-Tetrazol-5-yl)methylamine is a sweetener that has been used as an analog of saccharin. It is not approved for use in the United States. The sweetness of (2H-tetrazol-5-yl)methylamine is due to its interaction with sodium ions, which make it a sodium salt. This compound is not sweet by itself but it does have optical properties that can be used to measure the concentration of sodium ions in solution. The chemical structure of (2H-tetrazol-5-yl)methylamine consists of a tetrazole group, an amine group and two methyl groups.
