5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-2-naphthoic acid is a metabolite of naphthalene that can be synthesized from the cleavage of naphthalene by hydrochloric acid. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-2-naphthoic acid is a metabolic intermediate in the conversion of naphthalene to cyclohexane ring. It has been shown to be formed in the presence of activated carbon and an acceptor such as hydrogen gas or ammonia. The carboxylic acid group on this molecule is activated by loss of water to form the corresponding carboxylate.
