3-Thiazol-2-YL-pyridine is an antibacterial agent that binds to bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial cell division. 3-Thiazol-2-YL-pyridine is a potent inhibitor of the ATP binding site of the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme. The optimization of this compound has been achieved by the use of palladium catalysis for coupling with alkylstannanes. This method results in the production of a more potent and selective inhibitor than previously reported methods. 3-Thiazol-2-YL-pyridine has shown activity against both escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus isolates, but not against other bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
