2,4,6-Trihydroxy-3-xylene is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of spathulatane diterpenes. It is an aromatic hydrocarbon with a molecular formula of C8H12O2 and a molecular weight of 132.16 grams per mole. 2,4,6-Trihydroxy-3-xylene has been found in plants such as Eucalyptus globulus (spathulata), Humulus lupulus (isovaleric acid), and in mushrooms such as Agaricus bisporus (angulata). This compound is also found in Australian native plants such as Acacia sp., Casuarinaceae sp., and Eucalyptus sp. It can be synthesized by condensation reactions involving methylation of isovaleric acid and acetone with formaldehyde.
