Tetraethylammonium Borohydride is a borohydride reductant that has been shown to be effective in the reduction of aldehydes. It can also be used in the synthesis of cholesterol esters, as well as the production of nanotubes. Tetraethylammonium Borohydride is soluble in water and can react with chloride ions to form hydrogen gas and tetraethylammonium chloride. Tetraethylammonium Borohydride has been shown to have non-polymeric properties, which makes it an excellent candidate for use as a component in liquid crystal compositions. Tetraethylammonium Borohydride reacts with hydroxyl groups in pyrimidine compounds and pyridiniums to form carbonyl groups, which are useful for low-energy reactions such as hydrogenation.
