Tetrabutylammonium salicylate is an inorganic chemical compound that has a reactive, hydroxyl group. It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. Tetrabutylammonium salicylate can be used as a radiation-sensitive reagent for the determination of DNA and RNA. It reacts with hydrogen sulfate to form a fluorescent product that can be detected by light emission or chromatographic methods. Tetrabutylammonium salicylate also has been shown to inhibit hepg2 cells from producing prostaglandin E2. This inhibition may be due to its ability to react with polycarboxylic acid molecules and form reaction products that are not soluble in water, thereby inhibiting the production of prostaglandins.
