2,4,6-Trichloropyridine is a nucleophile that attacks the phosphorus atom of a sulfamidate. It reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form a peroxide intermediate which can then react with an oxidant such as trifluoroacetic acid to form 2,4,6-trichloro-5-pyrimidinethiol. This product has been shown to be synthetically produced and industrially used in the synthesis of halopyridines. The synthetic route involves using phosphorus oxychloride and trialkylsilyl chloride to form the required reagents. The industrial use of this product is due to its usefulness as an intermediate in the production of other compounds.
