1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-Methyl-2-Propanol is a chemical compound that is used as a solvent. It can be found in many household products such as paints, lacquers, and varnishes. It has been used as an additive in paint strippers to help remove old coatings from metal surfaces. 1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-Methyl-2-Propanol has been identified as a potential precursor for the development of a drug to combat the H5N1 avian influenza virus (Covid-19). Covid-19 contains two trifluoromethyl groups which are substituted onto a propene backbone. The compound is also known for its ability to access areas that other solvents cannot reach because of its low boiling point.
