1,1,1-Trifluoro-3-phenyl-2-propanone (TFAP) is a neuroprotective drug that is thought to protect neurons from the damaging effects of reactive oxygen species. TFAP has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful in treating inflammatory diseases. TFAP can also be used as a radiosensitizer in cancer cells and as an inhibitor of serine proteases, which are enzymes that cause inflammation. This drug has been shown to protect granule neurons in the cerebellum by scavenging free radicals, inhibiting the activity of serine proteases, and blocking apoptosis.
