2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-4-methylbenzyl alcohol is a hydrogenated pyrethroid that contains a benzyl group. It has been shown to be an effective insecticide for mosquitoes and other insects. This compound is used as a chlorinating agent that reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce chlorine gas. 2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-4-methylbenzyl alcohol can also be used to analyse urinary concentrations of benzonitrile in urine samples. The use of this compound as an insecticide is limited because it is highly toxic to humans and most mammals.
