1,3,4,6-Tetra-O-acetyl-2-deoxy-2-[(trifluoroacetyl)amino]-D-mannopyranose is an analog of N-acetylneuraminic acid and a potential inhibitor of glycoproteins. It has been shown to inhibit the incorporation of radiolabeled sialic acid into glycoconjugates in cell membranes. This compound binds to the active site of the enzyme and inhibits its activity by acting as a competitive inhibitor. The binding site is located in the middle of the enzyme's active site cleft. 1,3,4,6-Tetra-O-acetyl-2-deoxy-2-[(trifluoroacetyl)amino]-D-mannopyranose can be used for labeling cells or measuring the amount of time it takes for substances to leave cells.
