O2-Vinyl 1-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)diazen-1-ium-1,2-diolate is a mitochondria targeting reactive oxygen species (ROS) generator that induces mitochondrial membrane potential collapse, leading to cell death. It is used in the treatment of hepatic steatosis and aminotransferase activity. O2-Vinyl 1-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)diazen-1-ium-1,2-diolate is a potent activator of transcriptional factor nuclear factor κB (NFκB), which regulates genes involved in inflammatory response, immune response, and apoptosis. Transcriptional factor NFκB activation by O2VPD can be attributed to the binding of O2VPD to the cytosolic subunit p65.
