Vinyl chlorocarbonate is a biocompatible polymer that has been shown to have anti-bacterial properties. It has been used in detergent compositions, where it is taken up by fatty acids and forms a reactive intermediate with hydroxyl groups. This intermediate then reacts with the amines on the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell death. The uptake of vinyl chlorocarbonate can be inhibited by the presence of a metabolic disorder or brain infarction. Vinyl chlorocarbonate also has an effect on ns3 protease activity, which could lead to an increase in nitrogen atoms in biological samples.
