2-(Aminomethyl)benzimidazole Dihydrochloride Hydrate is a benzimidazole compound and an antifungal drug. It is used for the treatment of infections caused by fungi of the genus Candida, including candidiasis. The drug inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol and interferes with cell membrane function, causing leakage of intracellular contents. 2-(Aminomethyl)benzimidazole Dihydrochloride Hydrate binds to the sterol C-14 methyltransferase enzyme, which is required for the biosynthesis of ergosterol (the major sterol in fungi). This binding prevents incorporation of methyl groups into ergosterol, inhibiting DNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
