Zinciodate is a corrosion inhibitor that binds to the Zn2+ ion and prevents it from further reactions. It is synthesized by the reaction of zinc acetate and sodium hydroxide in the presence of microalgal cells, which are responsible for the production of zinciodate. This product has been found to inhibit corrosion in industrial processes, such as oil refineries, where it is used as a pump inhibitor. Zinciodate has also been shown to have kinetic data that indicates its ability to act as an enzyme inhibitor. It is an organic compound with a sulfonic acid functional group and can be used as a dry weight determination standard for optical density measurements.
