Zinterol hydrochloride is a potent antagonist of the 3t3-l1 preadipocyte cell line and has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cerebellar purkinje neurons. It is also an inhibitor of cyclase, which inhibits the synthesis of cAMP, leading to decreased energy metabolism. Zinterol hydrochloride has been shown to act as a low potency 2-adrenergic receptor agonist in both atrial and cardiac tissues. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the reuptake of guanine nucleotides in the atria by binding to GAT protein. This drug is used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
