Zinc perchlorate hexahydrate is a nucleophilic, organometallic compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is soluble in n-dimethyl formamide and fatty acids. This compound reacts with epoxides to produce the corresponding epoxy alcohols, which are useful for fabricating pharmaceuticals and other products. Zinc perchlorate hexahydrate can also be used to produce hydrogen bonds between amines and nitrogen atoms. It catalyzes the light emission of metal hydroxides, such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. The structural analysis of this substance has been well studied using X-ray crystallography and electron diffraction techniques on human serum proteins.
