Arecaidine Hydrochloride is a cytotoxic agent that binds to DNA and inhibits protein synthesis. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory agents, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are involved in the development of autoimmune diseases. Arecaidine hydrochloride is used to treat cancerous cells and has been shown to inhibit the growth of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. This drug can be prepared by reacting the amide with fluorophor and then separating it from the other components by chromatography on an ion exchange column. The neutral pH range for this drug is between 5.5-7.5 and it has a stereoselective nature.
