1-Bromo-4-methylcyclohexane is an organic compound that can be used as a reagent or catalyst. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor and boiling point of 178°C. 1-Bromo-4-methylcyclohexane is used in the synthesis of organic compounds and as a reagent for the conversion of alkyl halides to Grignard reagents, for example, in the synthesis of methylbenzene from benzyl chloride. It reacts with trialkyl or triaryl phosphites to form phosphonium salts, which are precatalysts for reactions involving Grignard reagents. It also acts as an iron chloride substitute in some cases.
