Eliprodil is an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, 2-Chloro-1-(4-chloro-phenyl)-ethanol (S) and 2-Chloro-1-(4-chloro-phenyl)-ethanol (R). Eliprodil is used to synthesize various pharmaceuticals. Eliprodil is hydrolyzed by lipase, acetone extract, or enzymatic hydrolysis. There are two possible products: acetone and succinate. Acetone is an organic solvent that can be used as a fuel or solvent for other chemicals. The other product, succinate, is a compound that can be used to make plastics and fertilizers.
