2-(2-Benzothiazolyl)-6-methylphenol (BTBP) is a coordination polymer that is a synthetic analogue of the natural product, β-carotene. This compound has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the epoxidation of ethylene and the dehydrogenation of styrene. The catalytic activity of BTBP can be attributed to its ability to coordinate with zirconium, titanium, and other metals. The syntheses of BTBP have been shown by elemental analysis and x-ray diffraction. The structure of this compound was confirmed by nmr spectra and single-crystal x-ray diffraction analyses.
