It is also an antiapoptotic agent and has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential and intracellular levels of cytochrome c, as well as inhibit the expression of regulatory genes such as Bcl2 and Mcl1. 3-Cinnamoyl-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H pyran 2 one induces apoptosis by binding to annexin A1, which is an important regulator of the cell cycle, in mcf7 cells. 3Cinnamoyl 4 hydroxy 6 methyl 2H pyran 2 one also inhibits tumor growth in vivo and shows no adverse effects on healthy tissues.
