2-(Benzyloxy)-5-methoxybenzaldehyde (BMB) is a potent inducer of transcription-polymerase chain reaction in HL60 cells. It also has significant cytotoxicity against the tumor cell line HCT-116 and shows potent antitumor activity. BMB is an analog of phenylacetic acid, which inhibits the growth of HL60 cells by binding to the receptor for epidermal growth factor, leading to decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and DNA synthesis. The biological properties of BMB have been studied using cycle analysis on urine samples containing cancerous cells. These studies show that BMB can inhibit the proliferation of these cells and induce their death.
