It can be used to synthesize organic compounds with an asymmetric center at C5. The stereogenic center of (11aR)-(+)-5,6,10,11,12,13-hexahydro-5-phenyl-4H-diindeno[7,1-cd:1,7ef]phosphocin can be easily prepared by catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation and then coupled with different amides to form new compounds. The hydroxy group on the lactam ring and the methide group on the phosphine provide additional sites for substitution reactions
