(5S,8S)-8-Benzoyl-2-(1,2-dihydroxypent-3-enyl)-9-hydroxy-8-methoxy-3-methyl-1-oxa-7-azaspiro[4.4]non-2-ene is a dextrorotatory derivative of the natural product from a subtilis strain. It has been shown to be active against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. The biological properties of this compound have been demonstrated using an extract of the fungus Phoma sp., which has been shown to produce the compound. This compound also has antibacterial activity against various strains of bacterial endophytes and fungi such as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus fumigatus.
