4-Hydroxy-2-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4HCPA) is a ligand that can be used in an acidic environment. It has been shown to catalyze the rate enhancement of organometallic reactions at temperatures lower than 60°C. 4HCPA is completely biodegradable and is not toxic to plants or animals, making it environmentally safe. This compound has been used as a herbicide for weed control and is known to have a high degree of selectivity. 4HCPA also has an inhibitory effect on peroxide production in wastewater treatment, which may lead to its use as a catalyst for dry weight determination.
