Cesium Standard is a cesium salt that has been used in plant physiology research to measure uptake. It has been shown to be genotoxic, which may be due to its ability to bind to DNA and form covalent bonds with the phosphate backbone of DNA. Cesium Standard can also be used as a radiation source for thermodynamic data, as well as being an important component of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and optical properties measurements. Cesium Standard is soluble in water and organic solvents, with a melting point of about -10°C. The compound is also thermally stable up to about 200°C. This makes it useful for low temperature experiments (-10°C). Cesium Standard can also be synthesized by reacting potassium hydroxide with cesium chloride in a hydrochloric acid solution.
