7,7-Dimethyl-5,7-dihydroindeno[2,1-b]carbazole is a semiconductor material that has been used in the manufacture of solar cells. It is an efficient light absorber and as such can be used as an active layer for photovoltaic devices. 7,7-Dimethyl-5,7-dihydroindeno[2,1-b]carbazole has been shown to have a high quantum efficiency with unitary conversion efficiencies up to 20%. This material has a nonradiative recombination rate that is lower than other materials and it also shows good thermal stability. 7,7-Dimethyl-5,7-dihydroindeno[2,1-b]carbazole is used in many solar cell applications because of its efficiency and low cost.
