Acid Red 9 is a dye that has been used to stain various biological tissues. Acid Red 9 has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as Salmonella typhimurium, in vitro. In addition, it has been shown to be an autophagy inhibitor and an inhibitor of bacterial cell signaling pathways. It also alters the metabolism of ATP levels in cells and inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species. Acid Red 9 has also been shown to increase the lifespan of mice with autoimmune diseases.
