C-Peptide is a peptide hormone that is secreted by the pancreas and used to regulate blood glucose levels. C-Peptide is a proinsulin, which is a precursor of insulin. It can be detected in human serum or plasma as an indicator for diabetes mellitus. The biological sample can be extracted from a human serum, plasma, or urine. C-Peptide has low potency and should not be used as a substitute for insulin injections in diabetic patients with high body mass index (BMI).
