It has a viscosity of 0.0012 Pa·s and is soluble in dimethylformamide and chloroform, but insoluble in water. This compound can be dissolved in alkali metal hydroxides or alkoxides to form salts with the formula [M+H]+, where M is an alkali metal ion or the corresponding alkoxide ion, such as sodium bisphenolate or sodium tetrahydroquinoline. The molecule consists of two benzene rings connected by two ethylene bridges (a quinoxaline).
