1H-Indazol-1-amine is a pyrrole that reacts with hydrogen chloride to produce 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline. It is also soluble in tetrahydrofuran and carbon tetrachloride. This compound has been shown to form an intramolecular hydrogen bond with the nitrogen atom of the amine group. The protonation of the indazole ring is catalyzed by acid or base. Hydrogen bonding also occurs between this compound and water molecules. The x-ray crystal structures for picrate and carbon tetrachloride are polymorphic forms of this molecule. 1H-Indazol-1-amine crystallizes as a monoclinic structure at room temperature, but transforms into a rhombohedral structure when heated to 100°C. This transformation can be reversed by cooling to room temperature.
