3-Nitrophenylethylamine is a modulator of the cannabinoid receptor CB1. It has been shown to bind to the allosteric site of the receptor and modulate its activity. 3-Nitrophenylethylamine binds to the phenyl ring in order to inhibit cb1 receptors, which leads to an increase in appetite. This drug has also been shown to have a potential mechanism as an inhibitor of fluoro compounds, optimizing their effects. The alkyl groups on this compound are thought to be responsible for its activity as a potential inhibitor of tetrahydroisoquinolines, modulators that affect dopamine release. 3-Nitrophenylethylamine is not active against chloro compounds, but it does show some binding affinity with these molecules.
