It is used as a photosensitizer in the oxidation of acenaphthene and other aromatic hydrocarbons. trans-2,6-Diisopropyl-N-(2-pyridylmethylene)aniline has been shown to be a strong electron donor and stabilizer for some transition metal catalysts. It has been used in single crystal x-ray diffraction studies on thermal stability and elimination reactions.
