• Descrizione: Camostat mesilate is a prodrug that is metabolized to the active form, pemastatin. It is used for the treatment of bowel disease and squamous cell carcinoma. Camostat mesilate inhibits the TNF-α receptor by binding to its response element in vitro and in vivo. The biological properties of camostat mesilate are due to its ability to inhibit TNF-α production by binding to the TNF-α receptor, thereby preventing activation of transcription factors such as nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB). In vitro assays have shown that camostat mesilate induces apoptosis in human carcinoma cell lines through inhibition of growth factor-β1. This drug has also been shown to be effective in treating viral infections, including HIV and herpes zoster.
