It is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotic that has been shown to have activity against a wide range of microorganisms including bacteria, viruses and fungi. 3-[(4-Aminophenyl)sulfonyl]benzenamine is also active against some protozoans. The chemical structure of 3-[(4-aminophenyl)sulfonyl]benzenamine can be considered as a sulfonamide with a substituted benzene ring at the 4-position. 3-[(4-Aminophenyl)sulfonyl]benzenamine has good solubility in water and low toxicity in mammals.
3-[(4-Aminophenyl)sulfonyl]benzenamine inhibits the production of viral proteins by binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase, which prevents transcription and replication of viral RNA
