Methyl 4-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate is a synthetic compound that is an attractant for Formicidae. It is used in the laboratory to study the replication of formicidae and its effect on their pheromones. It has shown to be effective when used in conjunction with other chemical compounds such as dioxane to create a synergistic effect. Methyl 4-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate is found naturally in soyabean oil, which has been shown to have insecticidal properties, but it can also be synthesized artificially.
