Dimethyl 4-nitro-1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylate is a white solid with a melting point of about 132°C. It has a density of 1.8 g/cm3 and is soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone. The compound is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of aminoguanidine hemisulfate salt. The reaction equation for the synthesis method is shown below:
The dimethyl ester reacts with ammonia to form an acid dimethyl ester. This ester reacts with sulfuric acid to form the desired product aminoguanidine hemisulfate salt. The target product can be tested using the following equation:
The velocity of the reaction was found to be 5.0 cm/s at 25°C with a concentration of 2 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M (NH)2COONa.
