HA-100 is a potent inhibitor of methyl glycosides, which are implicated in the development of cancer. It has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential in HL60 cells and to have minimal toxicity at physiological levels. HA-100 also inhibits the growth of C. glabrata by irreversible inhibition of the enzyme hl-60 cells and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF). The kinetic mechanism is unknown, but it may be due to the hydroxyl group that interacts with the enzyme and prevents it from producing a functional protein. HA-100 is not active against other bacteria, such as E. coli or Streptococcus pneumoniae.
The histological analysis shows that this drug causes DNA fragmentation, cell shrinkage, and nuclear condensation in HL60 cells after 24 hours.
