Trimethylsilylmethanesulfonate is a macrocyclic inhibitor that can be used to study the enzymatic glycosylation of sugar residues. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis and has been shown to have synergistic effects with other compounds, such as cationic polymerization. Trimethylsilylmethanesulfonate binds to the anomeric carbon of the sugar residue by forming a covalent bond with it. This inhibits the enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of glucose from UDP-glucose to the substrate and prevents formation of new glycosidic bonds. The analytical method for this compound is chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI-MS). This method involves analyzing trimethylsilylmethanesulfonate by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) after its conversion into trimethylsilylmethane sulfonic acid (TMSMS). The
