- Osanetant [INN]
Osanetant is a tachykinin antagonist that blocks the binding of substance P and neurokinin A to their receptors. It has been shown to inhibit the release of histamine and serotonin from neurons in rat microdialysis probes, as well as inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators from polymorphonuclear leucocytes. Osanetant also inhibits neurotransmitter release in cultured cells by antagonizing the NK1 receptor. In addition, osaneant inhibits the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by binding to DNA, preventing DNA replication. Osanetant has been shown to be effective against bowel disease and senktide.
