2,6-Diazaspiro[3.5]nonane is a spirocyclic compound that has been synthesized efficiently in a one-pot reaction with amines and sulfonyl chlorides. The synthesis of this molecule was performed in two steps: first, the spirocyclic ring system was constructed by the reaction of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde and 3-(2-chloroethyl)piperidine in the presence of triethylamine; secondly, the ring system was completed by using 2-methylbenzeneboronic acid to form the bicyclic ring system with an amidine moiety. This process is efficient because it does not require any purification steps or chromatography to isolate the product.
