- 1-(2'-Hydroxylethyl)-3-Methylimidazolium Chloride
1-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazolium chloride (HEMIC) is a quaternary ammonium salt that is used in polyester and vinyl textile production. It is soluble in water, benzene, and acetone. HEMIC has a vapor pressure of 0.0098 mm Hg at 25°C and a density of 1.890 g/mL at 25°C. This compound was tested for toxicity to test organisms and found to be toxic to aquatic life with an LC50 of 0.052 mg/L. It also has a solubility data of 2 g/100 mL in water, 3 g/100 mL in acetone, and 5 g/100 mL in benzene at 25°C. HEMIC has been shown to have thermodynamic properties that are similar to anions such as chloride, nitrate, sulfate, phosphate, or bicarbonate.
