2,5-Diiodo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole is an intermediate in the synthesis of compounds such as 2,5-diiodo-3,4,6-trimethoxybenzaldehyde and 2,5-diiodo-3,4,6-trimethoxyphenol. It is a reactive intermediate that has been shown to undergo arylation with electron rich aromatic compounds. This compound has also been used as a crosslinking agent for polymers.
